You are forgetting the P5s have the most power and influence within DI

So there is no reason a school, who already has the power and in control, would want to leave the NCAA. If the P5s want to play by different rules, then they have the power and influence to change them. If for some bizarre reason the P5s decide the no longer want to be in the same division level as the G5s and Mid-Majors, then they can form a new division level within the NCAA.

The P5s would be foolish to do so when you consider there are several sports (i.e. lacrosse, ice hockey, maybe soccer, etc) where very few P5 schools sponsor the sport. At least you can bet that the G5s/Mid-Majors will kick the P5s out in response for the P5s forming their own division level or new association. Is a P5 like VT suddenly going to sponsor M/W ice hockey, skiing, men's lacrosse, M/W water polo, and other non-revenue sports so the handful of P5s that already sponsor the sport have enough competition? People seem to think that every decision will revolve solely around football and men's basketball. However, ADs have to look at the bigger picture and consider other things (i.e. Title IX, budgets, other sports, etc).
